The importance of a top quality carpet underlay
Buying a new carpet can be a considerable investment.
You expect your new carpet to look good and feel good – and you expect that luxury to last the lifetime of the carpet.
It’s the underlay and not just the carpet that gives you the appearance and prevent premature wear.
Allow for the best underlay you can afford when you set a budget for your new carpet. It’s better to spend slightly less on the carpet and have it installed over a better quality underlay than have the finest quality carpet installed over a poor quality underlay.
The right choice can mean the difference between your carpet looking and feeling better for longer, or, your carpet giving little or no comfort and showing wear far earlier than it should.
Fitting a new carpet on your existing underlay can be a serious mistake and a false economy.
Your old underlay will have flattened in main foot traffic areas – in doorways and walkways, around furniture and particularly on stairways. It’s common sense really, if you put new carpet on a worn underlay that’s where it will flatten first.
You , your family and friends will expect your new carpet to feel luxurious and full of life. How can it if you’ve fitted it on an old underlay that collapsed years ago?
The carpet manufactures “Guarantee” may well be invalid if you have your new carpet fitted on an old, or, poor quality underlay and any complaint on premature wear or flattening may not be entertained
New underlay will help protect your carpet against point loading depressions made by heavy furniture and household fittings whilst accepting that point loading can never be entirely eliminated. Depending upon the weight of the furniture and the load spread of the feet, new underlay can reduce these marks and help the carpet recover quicker.
A new carpet underlay will provide excellent insulation. It will keep your home warmer and help reduce fuel bills. Intrusive noise levels will also be reduced from adjoining rooms.
