• Buying a new carpet can be a considerable investment - a good quality underlay helps protect that investment
• It’s the underlay and not just the carpet that gives you the appearance and prevents premature wear
• Underlay reduces noise and improves heat insulation (10 - 15% of heat is lost through the floor)
• A new underlay at the time you buy your carpet validates the manufacturers warranty

Allow for the best underlay you can afford when you set a budget for your new carpet. It’s better to spend slightly less on the carpet and have it installed over a better quality underlay than have the finest quality carpet installed over a poor quality underlay.

Fitting a new carpet on your existing underlay can be a serious mistake and a false economy.

Your old underlay will have flattened in main foot traffic areas – in doorways, walkways, around furniture and particularly on stairways. It’s common sense really, if you put new carpet on a worn underlay that is where it will flatten first.
