Q. Downstairs we have laminated flooring – great until you get the level of rainfall we’ve had this year. Our inside and outdoor mats don’t seem to take the wet from shoes. Any suggestions?
A. Have a look at the doormats from the Turtle Mat Company (0845 6003478; www.turtlemat.co.uk), which claims its mats trap 95 per cent of dust, wet mud and dirt. There are several types to choose from, but the Classic Turtle Mat is probably the one for you as it’s made from a mixture of cotton and microfibres that attract and hold on to dry dust particles (which will also reduce scratching on hard floors).
They come in a range of colours and sizes and can be machine washed and tumble-dried. Choose from two types of backing: multi-grip, which has small studs on the back to minimise movement, or latex, which is lightweight and especially for hard floors. Prices start at £19.95 for a standard doormat (50cm x 75cm) with a latex backing, from John Lewis, Robert Dyas or direct from the Turtle Mat Company.
For outside, the Mud Hog mat, £17.95, is made from tough, textured nylon – good for scraping off mud clods. It’s weatherproof and has an anti-slip rubber backing that allows rainwater to drain away.
